Carolyn Louise Jenkins gifted her home to our community in 1981. That home is the place we now call Kimball Jenkins.
Carolyn was a trailblazing woman. She was born in 1930, just ten years after the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. She was an only child, and grew up gazing at the beautiful painted ceilings in the main house and playing in her yellow playhouse in the backyard.
Carolyn left Concord to pursue a life in the theater. She earned a BA from Wellesley College and an MFA in theater directing, and studied playwriting at Columbia University in the City of New York and short story writing at the American Theatre Wing. She had a successful career in the performing arts on and off-Broadway. She fell in love but never married and had no children.
Carolyn returned to Concord to look after her father after her mother died. She was active in local theater with Community Players of Concord, NH, directing six plays for the group. Then, at age 50, she passed away, leaving us the legacy of her family's history.
Whenever you enjoy time at Kimball Jenkins, please say a word of thanks to Carolyn Jenkins!
