A Local Perspective: Historic Postcards On display through 5/31/22

A Local Perspective: Postcard On display until May 31, 2022

An exhibit populated by nostalgic ephemera from our community members. A Local Perspective: Postcard Memories was conceived by Gary Samson, formal Artist Laureate of the state and Mark Hopkins, furniture master and historic preservationist. The show adheres to Kimball Jenkins’ mission to ‘honor historic preservation,’ while still upholding its promise to foster creativity and maintain an inclusive artistic space. The collection on display was gathered from submissions from local historic societies and private collectors. The impetus of the subjects installed from collected relics exemplifies the idea that architecture is integral in the idea of townships or cities; that the idea of a space is akin to its landmarks. We’ve taken steps to include submissions from New Hampshire Black Heritage Trail and have created workshops in order to reappropriate Postcards into a more inclusive and diverse narrative. We have brought our community partners into Kimball Jenkins, not only to reminisce and share their stories within the framework of the architecture of Concord and the surrounding areas, but also to reimagine their New Hampshire and how the lived experiences of our diverse communities can be embraced and normalized within the scope of A Local Perspective: Postcard Memories.
