We’re already 70% of the way there. Your contributions will be matched 100% up to $90,000 by a grant from the Land & Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP). Every dollar is appreciated. A 15-year stewardship agreement will protect the House’s architectural features as preservation efforts continue around campus.
The restoration has revealed hidden stories that illuminate current events, from traditional craftsmanship to epidemics, immigration, and political division. We found carpenters’ drawings from the 1870s and mysterious names etched on the slate in 1903. We will be inviting the public to explore these relevant topics through programs and events.
A team of world-class preservation carpenters, painters, and roofers spent six months restoring the original slate roof and much of the exterior woodwork. Antique wood sheathing from Concord’s railyard was rescued and repurposed in the roof. The team made critical structural repairs, carefully preserved nine high-peaked dormers and gables, replicated copper caps and valleys, and restored two porches and fifteen original attic windows. Kimball Jenkins is leading a growing wave of historic preservation efforts around the city.
