Pronto Plate Lithography Printmaking with Mary Mead - Fall 2
Tuesdays | Fall Session 2 | 4-week course | October 22 - November 12
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Printmaking Studio, Yellow House
This class is intended for 16+
Pronto Plates, originally used in off-set printing, have brought lithography into print shops not set up for stone lithography. Pronto plates, which resemble sheets of vellum, require very little - sponges, water, gum arabic, a little citric acid and a press and you're set to go. Any waterproof mark making material can be used to create your image including acrylic floor wax, crayons, sharpies, and ballpoint pens. The pronto plate can be printed over and over which supplies a repeatable matrix on which to base a series of monoprints. Working on a series allows you to explore an image in a thorough and exhaustive way. Prints can continue to be worked on with any mark making material.
In this course, students will also learn how to work with oil based inks, how to set and run the press, registration, printing and non-toxic clean-up.
