The Mansion  

This class is intended for ages 18+ 

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the elegance of the Victorian era with this enchanting embroidering course. This hands-on class invites you to explore the intricate art of embroidery while creating a stunning piece that blends historical fashion with modern craftsmanship.

Over the course of eight hours, you’ll learn the techniques and skills needed to design and embroider your very own Victorian-inspired shirt, much like the ones worn during the early days in the Mansion at Kimball Jenkins! Through detailed instruction and creative experimentation, students will gain practical experience while uncovering the rich history and cultural significance behind Victorian embroidery. 

Bring or wear a support garment for fitting a general men’s shape Victorian-style shirt Day 1: Take measurements, draft patterns, & get fabrics cut out (baste fabrics together at night) 

Day 2: Fine tuning on fit, actual sewing. Students should have a nearly finished garment by the end of the class. 

Students will learn: 

• Proper seam finishes 

• How to assemble a placate 

• How to make a tailored buttonhole 

Supplies: instructor has plenty of brown cotton fabric, but if students would like a different color, please bring 3.5 yards of natural fiber-based fabric. Instructor supplies needles and thread. Store references: DIY Craft & Thrift in downtown Concord
