Open Studio Hours

Open studio time is available to all active students and independent artists of the Kimball Jenkins Ceramics Studio. Open studio time is allowed whenever there are not classes actively taking place in the studio. Please be aware that the schedule may be subject to change at any time and staff will do their best to communicate changes as they occur. Be mindful of others working in the studio and be respectful of the space while working independently.

Independent Artists

Independent Artist Membership Program

The Independent Artist Membership at Kimball Jenkins offers experienced potters the opportunity to work in a vibrant, community-centered ceramics studio. This self-directed program provides artists with flexible studio access, professional-grade equipment, and a supportive environment for creative exploration.

Membership Includes:

  • Studio Access: Generous access to our fully equipped ceramics studio, including wheels, hand-building tables, and glazing areas. Independent Artists are allowed to work in the studio anytime outside of Mondays and active class periods (see schedule for detailed time descriptions)

  • Kiln Firings: Independent Artists’ work will be fired by instructors in our electric kilns (cone 6)

  • Community Connection: Be part of a thriving artist community with opportunities to collaborate, share techniques, and participate in studio events.

  • Storage Space: A designated shelf space for tools, materials, and works in progress.

  • Professional Development: Occasional workshops and artist talks, plus opportunities to assist with studio events and gain teaching experience.

Membership Requirements:

  • Applicants must demonstrate prior ceramics experience and the ability to work independently.

  • Applicants are required to complete a minimum of two KJ ceramics classes to become an independent artist

  • Completion of an Independent Artist Agreement outlining studio policies and responsibilities.

  • Participation in periodic studio clean-up days and community events.
