December Workshop - Saturdays - December 7th and 14th

Join us for this special workshop with guest teacher and professional ceramicist, Lori Rollason. This workshop will be two days of fun and learning! Lori will share her surface design techniques for achieving her intricately detailed work. Known for her elegant white pottery adorned with intricate, colorful designs, Lori will guide students through the process of creating and decorating their own ceramic pieces.

Day One will focus on form. Students will create pottery—either on the wheel or through hand-building—while Lori offers expert guidance on designing shapes that best complement surface decoration. She will also share her artistic process, from initial idea to finished product.

Day Two will delve into surface design. Students will trim and refine their pots before learning to create and apply screen-printed images using colored slips. Lori will demonstrate how to layer and transfer these designs onto leather-hard clay, allowing participants to decorate their pieces with vibrant, intricate imagery. Other processes including sgraffito and inlay can also be explored.

This workshop will introduce colored slips as a new resource available in our Kimball Jenkins studio, giving students the tools to continue experimenting with surface design in their own work long after the class ends. You'll leave with a technique that can be used again and again to personalize your pottery with unique, detailed surfaces.

All skill levels welcome, but some experience with pottery is reccommended!
