Join Fiber Arts Instructor Bob Dorr for this introductory hand sewing series, designed for both newcomers and those looking to reconnect with the art of needle and thread. Over the course of four sessions, you will develop the skills and confidence needed to explore techniques used in both historical and contemporary garments and accessories. Prepare to be amazed by what your hands can create!
This class is the ideal starting point for your hand sewing journey. It’s perfect for beginners with no prior experience, as well as those eager to reacquaint themselves with the craft. You will learn techniques that were commonly used during the years when Kimball Jenkins’ Mansion was built, and they include:
Back stitching
English stitching (originally used for corsetry)
How to make a hand-done tailored buttonhole
And more!
Supplies: 2 fat quarters of cotton (instructor has extra fabric on hand), one button (DIY Craft &Thrift has many options for thrifted buttons at low costs), Coats & Clark Heavy Dual Duty XP Thread, instructor provides needles
